TrackCam M8 - Viewing and Downloading Video from the Hard Drive Directly

For M8 devices that use an SSD for local video storage, it may sometimes be necessary to access the hard drive directly to extract footage (for example, if the vehicle is involved in a major collision and the vehicle is not able to provide power to the DVR to allow it to communicate for remote video downloads). You will need to physically remove the hard drive from the vehicle and connect it to your computer via USB using this cable: https://a.co/d/0eOVzUtX (the hard drive connection is a SATA connector so you'll need a SATA > USB 3.0 cable). When you plug in the hard drive to your computer in this way, it will act like an external hard drive. DO NOT FORMAT THE DRIVE. You will only want to read the data that is already on it.

Download and install the player on a computer.


Launch the player and select a video file or video folder to play the recordings.


When prompted, enter the playback password: ztac88




  1. Main interface introduction:

  • The top section is the file path selection area. Click “Select Folder” to load the video path. Please select the exact recording folder. For example, if the video files are stored in D:\rec_dir, please select D:\rec_dir instead of only selecting the D drive.

  • The left side is the calendar area. Dates with recorded video files will be highlighted in red. For example, if there are recordings on April 22, Apr. 22 will be displayed in red.

  • The bottom section is the timeline, which shows the recording time and available video channels.

  • The main area is the preview window. Double-click to start video playback.

  • The main window displays the video playback.

  • The right side shows the video files sorted by time. You can double-click a file to play it.

  • The bottom control bar supports pause, stop, fast forward, rewind, MP4 conversion, and 9-grid preview.


Note: This player is developed by CMS and is not customized for a specific product model. Therefore, some functions may not be applicable. The player cannot play audio. The sensor data at the bottom and the map information on the right side are not used for our products.
